On the evening of June 6, local time, a Chinese male tourist was suddenly attacked on the streets of Kyoto, Japan and was slashed with a knife by a man. The perpetrator and the victim did not know each other. The murderer is currently on the run.
According to multiple Japanese media reports, the incident occurred at around 8 pm on the 6th. The 37-year-old male Chinese tourist was walking with about 20 tourists from a Chinese tour group at the time. On the way, the tour group met a man walking in the same direction. The two sides "have a dispute for some reason and it escalated into a quarrel." The man then suddenly held a knife-like object and cut the Chinese tourist's right clavicle to the side abdomen.
The Chinese tourist was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed to be in danger of his life. The victim told the police that he did not know the perpetrator.
According to the instructions of the Xiajing Police Department, the assaulter fled on foot from the scene and the police are chasing the fugitives.
The Chinese Embassy in Japan issued a statement on June 7 that the Consulate General in Osaka contacted and comforted me as soon as possible and expressed concern to the Japanese police, requiring the Japanese side to arrest the suspect as soon as possible and severely punish the murderer. The embassy once again reminds Chinese citizens in Japan, especially tourists coming to Japan, to strengthen safety precautions.
