IT Home June 8th news, Microsoft released the Edge browser beta version 138, and this update brings many new features and improvements.
First, the Edge browser has added a new media control center function. This feature allows users to control multiple media sources from any website in a single interface. The Media Control Center button will appear on the toolbar (displayed as an icon with musical notes), through which users can initiate picture-in-picture mode, cast media content to other devices, control music or video playback, etc.
Secondly, the history part of the Edge browser has undergone an artificial intelligence upgrade. Now, the feature uses artificial intelligence technology to help users find relevant websites in their history. Instead of remembering a word in the exact name of the website or in the page name, users can find what they need by using synonyms, phrases, or misspelled words. Microsoft said this feature uses a local device model, which is trained based on user data and does not send any information to Microsoft. The AI-powered history search feature is gradually being launched to Edge Beta internal test users.
Another change worth noting is the dynamic settings menu. If the browser runs slowly, the Performance and Extension Detector will pop up notifications in the settings menu to help users understand the built-in performance improvement methods. Similar to the AI-powered history search function, this feature is also being launched gradually.
In addition, IT Home noted that other updates to Edge browser 138 Beta include: Edge browser can now use the user's main working profile by default when opening external links, rather than the last profile used (this feature is being gradually launched); the autofill feature has added a toggle option to allow users to agree that Edge browser collects web form field tags to improve the accuracy of suggestions. It should be noted that this feature does not send data entered by the user, only field tags are sent; enterprise users can now view sensitivity tags in MIP-protected PDF files; Microsoft 365 Copilot chat summary feature is now available in the context menu (which is being launched step by step).
At present, the Edge browser beta version 138 is available for download, and users can obtain it on the official Edge Insider website. The 138 version is expected to be released on the stable version channel on the week of June 26, 2025.
