It has made solemn representations to the US side regarding the failure of US law enforcement departments to fulfill the relevant obligations stipulated in the Sino-US Consular Treaty. The spokesperson said that the Chinese government has always required Chinese citizens overseas to strictly abide by local laws and regulations, including relevant entry and exit regulations. At the same time, China safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese citizens in accordance with the law, and firmly opposes the US's political manipulation of relevant cases under the pretext of ideology and generalization of national security.
The spokesperson said on the 7th that relevant U.S. departments have made consular notifications to the Consulate General regarding the detention of the Chinese scholar. Officials of the Consulate General conducted video visits to the Chinese scholars involved on the 7th.
