More than 100 companies have stated that they intend to file collective mediation with the US court regarding Apple and Google's improper practices. These companies argue that Apple and Google, relying on their monopoly in the app store field, forced service fees of up to 30% for in-app transactions, are suspected of violating relevant laws in the United States and South Korea, demanding a reduction in service fees ratio and compensating for the economic losses caused.
IT Home noticed that Apple and Google have had many "conflicts" with South Korean regulators in recent years. In October 2023, South Korean telecom regulators said they would impose a fine of up to 68 billion won (current exchange rate is approximately RMB 359 million) on Google and Apple because the two companies violated local laws in the field of in-app payments.
In June last year, Apple was fined 210 million won (current exchange rate is approximately RMB 1.11 million) by South Korean regulators for suspected collection of location data without user consent and violation of the policy terms of the disclosure location data. Not only Apple, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) fined 188 companies, including Google's South Korean branch.
