
On June 7, local time, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a salmonella outbreak involving many states. At present, at least 1.7 million eggs have been recalled.
The eggs involved in this recall were distributed to nine U.S. states, including California, Nevada, Washington, Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana and Wyoming, with sales channels covering Walmart and Safeway chains.
According to the CDC, As of now, 79 people have been infected with salmonella, at least 21 people have been hospitalized for treatment, and no deaths have been reported. The CDC warned that the outbreak may not be limited to states with confirmed cases, and the actual number of infections may be much higher than the reported data.
At present, the United States is also investigating another salmonella outbreak caused by cucumber, which has caused 45 infections and 16 hospitalizations in 18 states. The FDA said the investigation into related cucumber products is still underway.
