Carlos Fernando Garland, mayor of Bogota, the capital of Colombia, said in the early morning of the 8th that Miguel Uribe Tulve, a Colombian senator and presidential election candidate who was shot on the 7th, has successfully undergone his first surgery in the hospital.
According to local media reports, Garland said that Uribe "survived the first surgery (after the attack)" and is still in a "critical period" of recovery.
Uribe was shot in Bogota on the afternoon of the 7th local time, and a shooting suspect has been arrested. Local police confirmed that Uribe was attending a political rally when the attack occurred. Witnesses told local media that a man got off a motorcycle and fired several shots at Uribe from close range.
Uribe is 39 years old and is an incumbent senator of the Democratic Center Party, Colombia's right-wing party, and one of the party's presidential election candidates.
