On June 9, according to TASS, as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Council meeting approaches, Iran issued a harsh warning to the agency: Tehran will re-examine its cooperative relationship with the IAEA once a negative resolution on Iran's nuclear program is passed.
Berhruz Kamalwandi, spokesman for the Iranian Organization of Atomic Energy, said in an interview with Tasnim News Agency: "We have clearly informed the International Atomic Energy Agency that if the draft resolution on Iran is approved by the Council, we will reassess the relationship with it.
Obviously, the agency should no longer expect Iran to continue its constructive posture of cooperation. "
Kamalwandi stressed that such draft resolutions ignored past lessons: "A similar warning was issued before but not heard, and the result was that Iran increased its enriched uranium production by seven times and increased its enriched uranium enrichment to 60%. For the upcoming Council meeting, we have formulated a complete set of countermeasures and informed the other party agencies."
This statement follows the recent disputed report on Iran's nuclear activities. On May 31, AFP quoted confidential documents from IAEA as saying that Iran has significantly increased production of highly enriched uranium in recent months.
In response to the allegations of the report, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted, saying that the document "failed to truly reflect the full picture of IAEA cooperation with Iran" and said that the report reached a conclusion based on "Israel forged documents."
IAEA Director-General Raphael Grossi defended the report, emphasizing that its content was fair and objective, and was based entirely on first-hand evidence obtained by the agency's verification personnel in Iran.
