On June 8, the mechanical roar at the emergency risk removal project of Luoguogou Bridge, Beihuan Road, Lanzhou City, roared, and the smart monitoring system reported measurement data in real time. Construction workers were working day and night to respond to complex geological challenges, ensuring the safety of the bridge and the established opening goal. Since the project started governance construction in January this year, although it has encountered sudden geological problems, the project has been successfully promoted with multi-party cooperation and scientific optimization.
In May 2024, Lanzhou Municipal Engineering Service Center found during daily inspections that the slopes on both sides of Luoguogou Bridge on the North Ring Road had obvious deformation, resulting in large displacement of the bridge structure. This major safety hazard immediately attracted great attention. Zhang Quan, senior engineer of the Bridge Branch of China Communications Construction First Highway Survey and Design Institute, introduced that the unit completed the design plan for unstable slope management and bridge structure reinforcement in October of that year. The plan adopts comprehensive measures such as anchor cable anti-sliding piles, high-pressure rotary spray piles, slope foot backfilling, pier pile replenishment and reinforcement, and systematically reinforce the bridge and slope body.

Reinforcement slope operation
In April 2025, during the construction of the anti-sliding piles on the East Coast Pier 8#-9#, groundwater suddenly surged, and weak silt formations appeared, making it difficult for anti-sliding piles to form holes. This complex geological condition exceeded the original design expectations, and the project once faced severe challenges. "Geological mutations are like driving piles on tofu, and ordinary machinery cannot make holes at all." Miao Changwen, project manager of the construction unit, introduced that in the face of emergencies, Lanzhou Municipal Engineering Service Center immediately organized multiple consultations by design units, supervision units and experts in geological and bridge fields inside and outside the province. After repeated demonstration, the optimization plan was finally determined: low-disturbance mechanical equipment was introduced, personnel and equipment investment were simultaneously increased, and 24-hour shift operations were implemented.

In order to minimize the impact of construction on citizens' travel, the Municipal Engineering Service Center has coordinated construction units and traffic police departments to strengthen organization and coordination, set up tidal lanes, and assigned traffic instructors.
