IT Home June 7th News, NASA announced today (June 7th) that due to the numerous problems, the next flight of the Boeing Starliner will be delayed until 2026.
Boeing's interstellar airliner was once highly expected by NASA to become a competitor to SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft and break NASA's single dependence on manned space missions.
NASA has said that the interstellar passenger plane's journey to the International Space Station will be implemented as early as the end of this year, but this time is postponed to 2026, allowing Boeing to further lag behind in the competition with SpaceX and cast a shadow on NASA's diversified space program.
IT Home quoted a blog post and said that NASA is still evaluating the next mission of Boeing's interstellar airliner. It is not clear whether it will carry astronauts or only transport cargo.
Boeing's Starliner suffered a serious defeat in its 2024 test flight. The two astronauts were therefore stranded on the International Space Station for more than nine months, far exceeding the original plan. Due to a malfunction in the spacecraft’s engine, NASA ultimately had to seek SpaceX’s help to use the Dragon spacecraft to bring astronauts back to Earth safely.
This failure hindered the manned authentication process of the interstellar passenger aircraft. Boeing has not yet proved that its spacecraft has the reliability of manned flight. As the only alternative to the International Space Station manned transportation tool, the delay of the interstellar passenger plane has undoubtedly exacerbated NASA's reliance on SpaceX.
