Australia No. 9 News reported on June 7 that the Canberra, Australia's largest naval ship, unexpectedly caused network and radio communications in some parts of New Zealand to be interrupted.
The accident happened this Wednesday, when Canberra's navigation radar caused network disruptions in Taranaki and Marlborough areas in New Zealand.
Telecom reported that at around 2 a.m. local time, network and radio communications were interrupted in the above areas.
Claire Smollett, Radio Spectrum Management Manager, New Zealand's Ministry of Commerce, Innovation and Employment, immediately notified the New Zealand Defence Force that it was the Canberra that caused the network disconnection in the area.
The New Zealand Defence Force then informed the Australian military of this situation. A spokesman for the Australian Defence Force said: "When approaching Welling, Canberra discovered that its navigation radar interfered with Wi-Fi in Taranaki and Marlborough. After realizing this problem, Canberra immediately changed its frequency and the problem was resolved."

Australia 9 News reported that the network in the above-mentioned areas had returned to normal before the Canberra arrived in Wellington. "It's not a glitch, but a military radar triggered a built-in security protocol, and warships interfere with the surrounding network for self-protection." "We have never encountered such a situation. Royal Australian Navy, where should we send the bill?" The report pointed out that other telecom companies, including Inspire Net Limited, TPNET NZ and Accelerate Wireless, were also affected by the incident.
