As the first "International Day of Dialogue of Civilizations" is approaching, on June 6, the 9th World Sinology Conference, co-organized by the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education and Renmin University of China, opened in Bao'an Campus, Shenzhen Research Institute, Renmin University of China, with the theme of "Understanding China: Sinology Research in the Age of Artificial Intelligence". Nearly 200 sinologists from more than 50 countries and regions discussed the path of innovative development of Sinology in the era of artificial intelligence, injecting new impetus into implementing the global civilization initiative and promoting exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign civilizations.
This conference focused on the impact of the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology on sinology and Chinese research. From the theme to the core topic, it reflects the in-depth dialogue between traditional humanities and emerging technologies, and has issued a new voice of the digital era of "understanding China". The conference paid special attention to the training of young Chinese scholars around the world, and specially held the "Sinology Scholarship: The Round Table of Young Chinese Sinologists" to stimulate the innovative vitality of sustainable development of Chinese studies and Chinese studies.
At the opening ceremony, the Chinese philosophy and social sciences preprint platform-World Chinese Students Platform was launched online. This platform is the first academic journal matrix and digital resource platform in China with Sinology as the core. It is based on "New Sinology" and "Great Sinology" as the core concepts. It is independently managed and jointly built by the academic community. It aims to promote the exchange of world Sinology and Chinese research results and help the prosperity of global Sinology.
The postdoctoral program of the "New Sinology Program" has been officially launched. The project was established in 2024 by the China-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education and five universities including Peking University and Renmin University of China. It is the first postdoctoral project in China for Chinese scholars, further improving the integrated training system and full-chain support network for young Chinese scholars.
The Youth Committee of the World Council of Sinology Congress was established in 2023. It is the first academic community in China with young sinologists trained by the "New Sinology Program" as the main body and has a common academic background.
During the conference, four keynote speeches, six parallel forums and "Sinology Press: Young Sinologists' Roundtable". Chinese and foreign scholars from different disciplines will collide their thoughts on topics such as "Change the paradigm of AI and Sinology Research" and "Digital Technology and Chinese Classics Dissemination", linking traditions and modernity, theory and technology from the perspectives of Chinese and foreign countries, presenting a new paradigm of Sinology Research. During this period, we will also hold the "9th World Sinology Conference Sinology Book Fair" in conjunction with many publishing houses, bringing together multiple series of Sinology research series, translations and academic journals to promote mutual learning and exchanges between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
