The South Korean Presidential Office said that Lee Jae-ming expressed his hope that South Korea and Japan can jointly respond to future challenges from the perspective of national interests. The leaders of the two countries agreed that a stronger and more mature South Korea-Japan relationship should be established on the basis of mutual respect, trust and responsibility. Especially this year, when celebrating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan, we should pay attention to the active exchange trends between the two countries and further strengthen intergovernmental communication.
The South Korean Presidential Office also stated that the leaders of the two countries also evaluated the achievements of South Korea-US-Japan cooperation and said that they will work hard to deal with various geopolitical crises within the framework of South Korea-US-Japan cooperation in the future.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shigeru Ishiba congratulated Lee Jae-ming on his appointment as South Korean president during the call, and expressed his hope to further promote Japan-South Korea relations through efforts between the two sides. Both sides agreed that Japan-South Korea relations and Japan-US-South Korea cooperation are crucial. Both sides expressed their hope to achieve a face-to-face meeting as soon as possible.
