On June 5, the new second runway of the third phase renovation and expansion project of Taiyuan Wusu International Airport was successfully lit up. The completion of this key node marks an important step towards the official commissioning of the new second runway.
It is understood that the newly built second runway of Taiyuan Wusu International Airport is 3,600 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a flight area level of 4E. The project will simultaneously plan and build taxiways, south aprons and supporting housing. The main and descending ends are equipped with Class III precision approach systems, and the secondary descending ends are equipped with Class I precision approach systems. After they are put into operation, the airport's operation support capabilities will be greatly improved.
The navigation-assisted lighting system, known as the "third eye" of a pilot, is the core facility to ensure flight safety at night and under low visibility conditions. The newly built second runway navigation assist lighting project with lights started on April 1, 2024. After 14 months of intense construction, the construction of precision approach lights, runway lights, taxiway lights and other systems and two lighting stations has been fully completed.
It is reported that in the next step, Shanxi Aviation Industry Group Co., Ltd. will coordinate all participating units and fully promote school flights, test flights and acceptance work, ensure the smooth operation of the new second runway, help Taiyuan build a modern regional aviation hub, and promote the high-quality development of Shanxi's civil aviation industry to a new level.
