In response to relevant US judicial departments, two Chinese students were investigated and prosecuted for smuggling dangerous bacteria, on June 7, a spokesperson for our Consulate General in Chicago said in response to reporters' questions that he learned about this from US media reports and was understanding the case through relevant channels, and made solemn representations to the US side regarding the failure of US law enforcement departments to fulfill the relevant obligations stipulated in the Sino-US consular treaty. The spokesperson said that the Chinese government has always required Chinese citizens overseas to strictly abide by local laws and regulations, including relevant regulations on entry and exit. At the same time, China safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Chinese citizens in accordance with the law, and firmly opposes the US's political manipulation of relevant cases under the pretext of ideology and generalization of national security.
