On May 30, 2025, on the occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, staff from Guanyun Demobilized Military Sanatorium in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province brought rice dumpling ingredients, health examination equipment and condolences to visit and comfort 102-year-old anti-Japanese war veteran Xu Wenqing and 96-year-old anti-Japanese war veteran Yin Zhiwan. They made rice dumplings with the veteran's families and talked about family affairs, paid tribute to the revolutionary heroes with practical actions and inherited the feelings of the country.
On the afternoon of the same day, at the home of Xu Wenqing, an elderly man in Yishan Town, the staff of the sanatorium and the elderly family sat together to make rice dumplings. Although his hearing was getting weaker after being over a hundred years old, Mr. Xu was still energetic and took the initiative to sit at the table to tell the people present the battle stories of the War of Resistance against Japan. His clear memories and loud words shocked everyone. At Yin Zhiwan's home, the old man was in poor health, but he still gave a thumbs up to thank him when he was undergoing a meticulous physical examination by medical staff. His wife recalled the heroic past of the old man joining the army to fight the enemy at the age of 14, and his words revealed deep remembrance of the history of the War of Resistance.

As the only demobilized military sanatorium in Lianyungang City, since its establishment in the 1950s, the institution has always protected the care of retired veterans with a "ten one" caring service system. It receives hundreds of retired veterans in short-term care per year, and has received careful service from superiors and veterans. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, this event not only gave veterans other condolences and health care, but also allowed the red memories and the style of supporting the army and the family-friendly style to be passed on in the fragrance of rice dumplings through the form of celebrating traditional festivals.
"Every listening is a spiritual baptism." The staff participating in the event sighed that the veterans' selfless dedication will inspire them to better provide better care services. The head of the sanatorium said that he would continue to care for the fewer and fewer veterans of the War of Resistance, let the light of respect warm every hero who stood up for the country, and let the spirit of the War of Resistance be shining in the new era.
