IT Home June 10th news, technology media AppleInsider released a blog post today (June 10th), reporting that Apple updated the launch of two major APIs, Metal 4 and Game Porting Toolkit 3, for game developers at the WWDC 2025 Global Developer Conference.
Metal 4
IT Home Note: Metal 4 is an efficient underlying graphics API, supports developers to build complex graphical interfaces and games on Apple devices, and achieves better performance with low-overhead hardware acceleration technology.
Developers can now directly run the inference network through shaders to complete lighting, material and geometric calculations, and create ultimate realistic visual effects for their games.
MetalFX system has also added frame interpolation (Frame Interpolation and Denoising features are capable of generating an intermediate frame for every two input frames, making frame rates higher and more stable; the latter enables real-time ray tracing and path tracing for state-of-the-art games.
Game Porting Toolkit 3
This API focuses on helping developers port games from external platforms (such as Windows) to the Apple ecosystem, simplifying testing and optimization processes.
Apple says developers can now customize Metal Performance HUDs and get insights and guidance on the screen on the graphics optimization code to achieve the best performance possible in the evaluation environment.
With the help of Mac Remote Developer Tools for For Windows, developers can also create Mac-side games through remote Macs located in their existing development workflows.
For developers, these tools mean lower development threshold and higher optimization space; for players, this will bring a better gaming experience. The update to Game Porting Toolkit 3 is expected to accelerate more AAA masterpieces to Mac, iPhone and iPad, while Metal 4's ray tracing optimization makes the light and shadow effects of the game world more realistic.
