When I woke up, I was shocked by the "exchange drama" between Russia and Ukraine! Russia had just accused Ukraine of delaying the acceptance of bodies of dead soldiers and exchanges with prisoners of war on June 7, and Ukraine quickly refuted it in less than a day. What is this back and forth "confrontation"? It is clearly a major event related to the dignity of soldiers and their families, but why has it become a war of public opinion full of gunpowder?

1. "Rashomon" scene: a deadlock in exchange between the two sides.
To be honest, this large-scale exchange, originally scheduled for June 7, was full of drama from the beginning. The Russian Ministry of Defense took the lead in "talking", saying that the bodies of some Ukrainian soldiers had been sent to designated locations on the border, but Ukrainian representatives disappeared and the exchange time was postponed indefinitely. Meginsky, head of the Russian negotiator, "revealed" the news on social media, with helplessness between the lines.
Who would have thought that Ukraine quickly "strike back". The Ukrainian prisoner treatment coordination headquarters issued a statement on the same day, throwing the blame to the Russian side. Regarding the exchange of prisoners of war, Ukraine emphasized that it had submitted a list of "change all" according to the consensus of the second round of negotiations, and opposed the Russian list that did not play according to routines; when talking about receiving the bodies, Ukraine directly stated that it had not reached an agreement on the date, and also accused the Russian side of deliberately placing pressure. After a while, the truth became confusing. Who is lying?
If you want to figure it out, you have to go back to the key second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on June 2. The only achievement reached between the two sides at that time was the exchange of personnel, but the differences in details had long laid the "thunder" for this storm.
2. Differences in terms: the game behind the "principles"
First talk about prisoners of war exchange. The Russian side has actually made it clear: seriously injured soldiers can "change all", but prisoners of war under 25 only promised to replace at least 1,000 people, and did not mention "all to all". CCTV News also confirmed that Russia insists that the exchange of Russian-Ukrainian prisoners of war follows the "principle of reciprocity". From this perspective, Ukraine’s accusation that Russia’s list does not meet the “change all” seems a bit untenable – after all, it did not bite this requirement to death during the negotiations!
Let's talk about body exchange. Russia has a tough attitude and is determined to unilaterally hand over 6,000 bodies. It also said that Ukraine is willing to accept the body exchanged by Russian military bodies; Ukraine insists on the reciprocity model of "6000:6000" and directly rejects the Russian proposal. Although the exchange date is uncertain, the Russian side has delivered the body to the door. Ukraine suddenly called for a stop and postponed it for a week. It seems strange no matter how you look at it.

3. The "unspeakable hidden" behind it: the double pressure of pensions and data
Why does Ukraine not want to take the body? In fact, there are many difficulties hidden behind it. Once 6,000 bodies are received, the death penalty is an astronomical amount. With Ukraine's current financial situation, how can it be obtained? Moreover, receiving the body means publishing the casualties data. 6,000 people are not a small number. If it is announced, the morale of the Ukrainian army and the hearts of the people in the country will be affected.
Russia obviously saw through this point and used its bodies to fight a "psychological war". Public opinion condemned Ukraine and put the other side on the fire. Ukraine is now in a dilemma. It is too expensive to take it; if it doesn't take it, it is accused of disregarding the dignity of the soldiers. This game is really cruel.
From clause disputes to public opinion offense and defense, the "exchange storm" between Russia and Ukraine seems to be a blockage of humanitarian actions, but in fact it is a fierce competition between the two sides in the political, economic and public opinion field. Regardless of the truth, I hope these disputes will be calmed as soon as possible, so that the soldiers' dignity will be respected, and peace will come as soon as possible. Let’s like and share quickly, and pay attention to subsequent developments together!
