Agents of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency mistakenly detained a U.S. federal bailiff in Arizona recently. A spokesman for the U.S. Federal Marshals Department said in a statement that the bailiff was detained in the lobby of a federal building in Tucson because of his appearance "compliance with a pursued suspect."
When the incident occurred, other law enforcement officers quickly confirmed the identity of the bailiff, and then he successfully left the scene without further conflict. The Federal Marshals Department did not disclose the names and further details of the detained person.
At present, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has not responded to media requests for comment on the matter.
According to sources, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau significantly increased its operations under pressure from the White House, arresting more than 2,200 immigrants on June 3 alone, setting a record for the latest single-day record.
