Earlier on the 7th, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Putan issued a statement after meeting with Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Di Siha, saying that Thailand and Cambodia have failed to reach an agreement on some issues, which is regrettable. In response, Thailand will strengthen its response measures and send additional troops to border areas.
Cambodia and Thai troops clashed briefly in a disputed border area on May 28, with the fire fighting lasting about 10 minutes, and a Cambodian soldier died in the conflict. Subsequently, Thai Prime Minister Petton and Cambodian Prime Minister Hon Manai both said they did not want the conflict to escalate and would ease border tensions through dialogue.
