In May 2025, the national consumer price fell by 0.1% year-on-year. Among them, cities remained the same, rural areas fell by 0.4%; food prices fell by 0.4%, non-food prices remained the same; consumer goods prices fell by 0.5%, and service prices rose by 0.5%. On average from January to May, the national consumer price fell by 0.1% compared with the same period last year.
In May, the national consumer price fell by 0.2% month-on-month. Among them, cities fell by 0.2%, rural areas fell by 0.2%, food prices fell by 0.2%, non-food prices fell by 0.2%, consumer goods prices fell by 0.3%, and service prices remained the same.

1. Year-on-year changes in prices of various goods and services
In May, the prices of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 0.1% year-on-year, affecting the CPI (Consumer Price Index) to rise by about 0.02 percentage points.
In food, fresh fruit prices rose by 5.5%, affecting CPI by about 0.12 percentage points; aquatic products prices rose by 2.5%, affecting CPI by about 0.05 percentage points;
The price of livestock meat rose by 0.7%, affecting the CPI rose by about 0.02 percentage points, of which pork price rose by 3.1%, affecting the CPI rose by about 0.04 percentage points;
The price of fresh vegetables fell by 8.3%, affecting the CPI by about 0.17 percentage points;
The price of eggs fell by 3.5%, affecting the CPI by about 0.02 percentage points; the price of grain fell by 1.4%, affecting the CPI by about 0.02 percentage points.
The other seven categories of prices rose and fell year-on-year. Among them, the prices of other supplies and services, clothing, education, culture and entertainment rose by 7.3%, 1.5% and 0.9% respectively, while the prices of medical care, residential, daily necessities and services rose by 0.3%, 0.1% and 0.1% respectively; the prices of transportation and communications fell by 4.3%.

2. Monthly changes in prices of various goods and services
In May, the prices of food, tobacco and alcohol fell by 0.2% month-on-month, affecting the CPI decline by about 0.05 percentage points.
In food, fresh vegetables prices fell by 5.9%, affecting the CPI drop by about 0.12 percentage points;
Egg prices fell by 0.9%, affecting the CPI by about 0.01 percentage points;
Enema meat prices fell by 0.2%, affecting the CPI by about 0.01 percentage points, of which pork prices fell by 0.7%, affecting the CPI by about 0.01 percentage points;
Fresh fruit prices rose by 3.3%, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.07 percentage points;
Aquatic products prices rose by 0.8%, affecting the CPI increase by about 0.02 percentage points.
The other seven categories of prices rose four times month-on-month, one flat and two declines. Among them, the prices of other supplies, services and clothing rose by 0.7% and 0.6% respectively, while the prices of education, culture, entertainment, and health care rose by 0.1%; the prices of residence remained the same; the prices of transportation, communications, daily necessities and services fell by 1.2% and 0.8% respectively.
