U.S. President Trump once again criticized the California high-speed rail project when he was asked by media at an event on June 9, "Newson's state is in a mess now." Trump said California's high-speed rail project between Los Angeles and San Francisco was a waste of money, and the flight costs between the two cities were "just $2." The U.S. federal government previously announced the termination of its $4 billion grant program to California's high-speed rail project. On May 3, Trump posted a message on social media platforms to "blame" California Governor Newsom, criticizing the latter for "incompetent management" of California's high-speed rail projects.
According to US media reports, in 2008, California approved $9 billion in high-speed rail construction funds, committed to building the first high-speed rail in the United States. The project was originally planned to operate 220 miles per hour trains between San Francisco and Los Angeles (about 1,287 kilometers) by 2020, with a total budget of $33 billion. However, due to soaring costs and repeated delays in construction, the mileage of the project has been reduced many times.
